Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now hit 23 playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that moment besides him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their work this season.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
