Catherine's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
