Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
