Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just seven months after starting insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds finished through agreement in August.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Previous History Between Bamford & the Manager

The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
