Shock as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was accosted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before running away.
The purpose behind the attack has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement stated.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to establish their destination," added an official.
A Nation in Mourning
His family member, a close relative, stated the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," she stated.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
She urged the community to avoid sharing graphic images from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's children.
A Multifaceted Career
Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a South African broadcasting platform.
Apart from his media career, Stock was active in various business ventures, including private security, supplying elite guarding services and protecting major functions across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and assisted with property reclaimations.

His murder has caused national trauma and led to an wave of remembrances from his fans, the authorities and various organizations.
A cabinet official said he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.
"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my actions as a minister. He was a pure example of who we should be," he stated.
A political leader commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director expressed that "Stock was more than just a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, warmth and quick humor, adding that his legacy "will be remembered".

South Africa, the region's leading economy, has one of the world's highest homicide statistics, fuelled by robberies and organized criminal activity, with some dozens of citizens murdered daily between April and September, as per police data.
