Just one day after launch, the broadcaster has revealed that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for October 31st.

Starting on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO Max, ahead of its traditional TV airing. Subsequent episodes of the show's first season will continue to air on Sunday nights on both HBO and its streaming arm, building toward the final episode on Sunday, December 14.

Storyline Summary

Based in Stephen King’s It universe, the new series borrows elements from the classic book while expanding on the universe established by the It movie director in the recent movie adaptations. The original It highlighted young characters confronting unimaginable horrors, so it’s fitting that the series follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it set out to raise the stakes, offering even more intense scares than the movies and establishing a brutal tone for the rest of the season.

Premise and Ideas

Located in the early '60s, this show presents a fresh cast of parents and youngsters residing in a seemingly idyllic town concealing a dark secret. Derry follows a vicious, repeating pattern—one marked by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a evil entity reappears every 27 years. Although Welcome to Derry might seem like it leans too heavily to the movies on the surface, what differentiates the digital program is its dual perspective—narrated via the viewpoints of young and old simultaneously. Children are especially susceptible to the entity's fear, but the adults don't escape dealing with their personal demons born from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.
