The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
