This Special Release Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence On Resellers

Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators and the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Fans can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork all inspired by the museum's aesthetic. The big draw, however, will be a limited-edition Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop will operate both the physical location to online from January 26 to April 19.

The Book That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a highly anticipated tome filled with beautiful illustrations depicting Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is what an in-world scientist might publish once adventurers provide field notes, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched had the famous islands teemed with flying-types rather than birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

Why This Promo Card Stand Out

It is common to issue special edition cards for major tournaments and brand collaborations. A lot of these collector items typically highlight the famous electric rodent that acts as the series face. The factor setting this latest promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger size. Although exact measurements were not immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, and customers limited to just one card per purchase.

Limiting Reseller Interest

Per an official announcement, a portion of the pop-up items will also be sold beyond the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be select retailers in the United Kingdom. Critically, fans will not be able to purchase this promo through the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is inevitable, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. For those unable to attend, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago in the coming months.

"Every penny from purchases from the Museum shop and from its online store, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding solutions to the planetary emergency," it notes.
